The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has announced to the general public that online registration for 2017 General Certificate Examination (GCE) is coming soon. According to the official statement made by WAEC via the official twitter handle of the Council, it states that The 2017 WAEC GCE registration form for November/December WASSCE is finally closed and the next edition for 2018 will commence soon.

In our own words, we are informing members of the public that WAEC GCE November/December 2017 registration form is now out on sale, candidates interested in sitting for the examination can now purchase their form to enable them sit for the exam.

The information released by the Council via their twitter handle further asserts that “Candidates are expected to pay a registration fee of thirteen thousand, nine hundred fifty naira N13,950 at any of the approved bank or any accredited agents to obtain the registration pin and information VCD”.

Interested candidates should note that the registration procedure has been designed to accommodate biometric features that will be used for validation at the exam center. It was also disclosed that candidates who wish to register for the exam after the closing date can be accommodated as ” walk-in-candidates” provided they register 24hours to the start of the paper(s) they intend to write.

All “walk-in-candidates” are to pay a non-refundable fee of twenty five thousand naira, N25,000.” The normal registration period is from Friday April 28 to June 28. After obtaining registration pin, candidates should log on to WAEC webiste at www.waeconline.org for registration.

Method of Application: How To Apply

  • Applicants should visit WAEC GCE online application website at http://registration.waecdirect.org to complete registration.
  • Before submitting your registration make sure you complete the below task

— Captured your bio-metric fingerprints,

— Scanned your passport ,

— Captured other personal details before you submit registration.

  • After submission of your registration form, print the admission notice / photo card.


WAEC GCE 2017 Instructions and Guidelines



You are required to enter your bio data which includes Gender, Disability, Marital Status, Maiden Name (if applicable), Date of Birth, Nationality and State of Origin. Note that your name must not be more than 40 characters, this includes spaces between the surname, first name and other name. Please select NONE for disability information if you are not disabled.



You are required to upload your scanned passport size photograph with a white background. The photograph must be a recent one and must be in Joint Portable Exchange (jpg) format. Note that the photograph you upload will be printed on your photocard and certificate. The dimension of the passport must be exactly 275 X 314 pixels. The photograph must not be more than 15 kilobytes and not less than 7 kilobytes in size.



You are required to supply your contact information which includes telephone, email, residential address, residential city, residential state, postal address, city and state. Note that Telephone number is compulsory since it would be used to contact the candidate should the need arise.



You are required to select the state and town you wish to write the examination. The exact centre will be automatically assigned to you by the system. Please note that you cannot change your examination town after submission.



English Language and Mathematics have been automatically selected for you because they are compulsory. You are required to select the other subjects you wish to register for in this examination. Please note that a minimum of Seven (7) and a maximum of Nine (9) subjects are allowed (English Language and Mathematics inclusive).


You are required to read the declaration section carefully and check or tick the check boxes before submitting your form. You cannot proceed unless you have done this.



Once you have completed the registration form, you are required to click the ACCEPT button after which a preview of your details will be displayed. You are required to review your application at this stage and click the EDIT button if you desire to make any modification. You should click the SAVE button if you want to save your application and still be able to come back and modify it. Note that you can only modify up to 3 times. Click the SUBMIT button if you want to submit your application.
